6K Class Work

In Autumn Term 1 our topic was World War 2. We learned lots about why WW2 started, what an ARP Warden was and did. We also wrote a letter pretending we were an Air Raid Precaution Officer and someone was not following the blackout rules. We visited Eden Camp in Yorkshire which was set out into 30 little huts like museums. Eden Camp used to be a prison of war camp.

In maths we focused on lots of things such as add subtraction multiplication and division by 10 100 and 1000, rounding to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000. We also did a lot on conversions 10mm=1cm, 100cm=1m, 1000m=1km,aswell as conversions of weight, capacity and time. We added and subtracted numbers including decimals and applied our skills on word problems. We also did algebra and we all learned a lot and understood it very clearly.

In literacy we focused on flashback stories and newspaper reports. We wrote a flashback story based on being late for school and we wrote one in our topic imagining that it was a special day and the air raid siren went off and what happened in the shelter. We also focused on newspaper reports we wrote one on “the true story of the three little pigs”. Our other newspaper report was based on our trip to Eden Camp. 6K have learned a lot over Autumn Term1 and we can’t wait for Autumn Term2.

In Autumn 2 6K worked on a topic with the question, “What is the greatest invention ever?”

To answer this question they looked at a timeline of significant inventions and inventors. They have researched certain inventions, such as the television, in more detail.

A link was made to Literacy as they were working on biographies and therefore they looked into the life of Thomas Edison in more detail.

As a part of the topic the children worked in groups to create a green screen presentation about the inventions of transport over time. Please click on the links below to view the videos.
